Interview with Ropin' Romance

Book Exchange The Long and Little Doggie I Was Just a Radioman Dear Margaret, Pamela Ackerson Be More Successful with Marketing and AdvertiZING About Pambling Roads Blog Pambling Roads

What was your original inspiration for The Wilderness series?
I've always loved Native American history. The Wilderness stories originally started with researching the Cherokee Indians. But they had their own mind and went with the Lakota Sioux.
Did you know that going into writing the first book in the Wilderness series that it would be a series or did it start out a standalone book?
It was originally planned as a trilogy and ended up becoming a quintilogy.
What can we expect to find in not only the Wilderness series but also your latest book Out of the Wilderness?
Real history and real events. Readers have become passionately and emotionally verbal about my characters, and many have said they feel as if they were there.

How many books do you currently have out on the market and what genres do they fall into?
I have eight books on the market right now. There is the five from The Wilderness Series which is time travel, western and three children's picture books (pre-school). Two of them are in English and one in Spanish.

Are you currently working on any other projects that you would like to share with us?
Yes, a project I am extremely thrilled to be writing! Dear Margaret, is based on a true story, taken from the memoirs of a Pearl Harbor survivor and decorated war veteran. It should be available at the end of November, just in time for the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

What is your favorite thing about being an author?
Getting lost in a story, returning to reality, and meeting so many wonderful readers and authors!

If you could co-write a book with any other author who would you choose and why?
I don't think you have enough room...everyone who writes all sub-genres of westerns? ;-D I love cowboys and I love Indians. What more can I say?

Can you tell us what some of your favorite books are?
You're going to think this is silly, but, I'll be honest. Any and all fairy tale type stories, Disney type stuff. Yes, I'm a Disney girl.

If you could change one thing either within the author/book community what would it be?
I think being a little more flexible on what a particular genre is and allowing authors to be in that category without the strict rules of genres. And even though I don't write solid genre romance, I have romance in my stories.  I do have one little quirk. I cringe every time I hear "clean reads" as if sex is dirty. Can't they say "sweet" or something else?

If you had the chance to turn any of your books into a movie which one would you choose and who would play your leading roles?
Oh, dear. That one is hard! All of them?
Okay, seriously. Most likely the one with the most historical events. It would have to be either book 2, Into the Wilderness or book 4, Warriors of the Wilderness. Book 2 has very accurate depictions of the Little Big Horn Battle, also known as Custer's Last Stand. It was a major victory for the Lakota. Or Book 4 which is the story of Wounded Knee (the first one). It's a passionate look about the gut-wrenching tragedy that all of us have seen in our history books...the one where they show Spotted Elk frozen in the snow.
Ah, leading roles? So many hunky Native American's to choose from. LOL
Thank you for this opportunity. I really appreciate all the work you are doing.
